Step by Step Guide to Global Domains International server FTP
68Using GDI-FTP is easy
GDI stands for Global domains international and it is a well established company that registers domains with the "ws" extension and does related services. In addition to the their services they have an affiliate program for their members which enables them to make money by reffering others to the company.
Many members in GDI are having a problem in how to use GDI-FTP. By GDI-FTP i mean transfering files to the GDI server. Anyone registered in GDI can use his hosting account to upload files, up-to 100mb, through an FTP program. FTP stands for file transfer protocol and it is this service that enables us to upload whatever we want to our server.
I learned how to use GDI-FTP on my own. Just doing it by myself through reading stuff about it. It seemed difficult at first but then once i knew the basics it was more clear and easy. so i present here the steps on how to use GDI-FTP
- Change your GDI account setting to "Basic hosting"
To use GDI server you first have to change your account setting. You have to sign-in to your account, click "domains" and then click "change DNS" and then select "basic hosting" and then click "continue". That is it. Your account setting is changed to basic hosting means you can use the server to uploade your files. It may take 24 hrs for your setup to be functional but it usually is ready in few minutes.
- Download FTP program
http://filezilla-project.org is good and is free. So download it and install the program on your computer and open it.
- connect filezilla to your GDI server
Fill the necessary information about your GDI hosting account and do the connection. Then you will see the directories in your GDI account, your domain name folder. Filezilla has a four sided interface where the left upper and lower sides show you files on your computer and the right upper and lower side shows you directories and files in your GDI server.
- Upload files
Once you see the four sided interface of the filezilla software it is easy to uploade files. Just select the file from your hard disk that you can see at the left side of the software and drag it to the GDI server directory or folder. Done!
